The BMW all-wheel drive system not only thinks when you do, 
it thinks ahead. Variable torque split means that you can always rely on perfect traction. And you will be amazed by the agility, precision and safety of your driving experience, even when cornering at high speeds.

BMW xDrive is BMW's permanent all-wheel drive system. In normal driving conditions, it works with a basic torque split of 40 to 60 percent between front and rear axle. The torque bias between the axles is adjusted according to different road friction coefficient or driving situation. The BMW xDrive's sensation of agility is at its most impressive in hairpin bends or when cornering at high speeds. Every ounce of performance is turned into acceleration, making the driver feel as if their BMW were pulled out of the bend by a giant winch.

Dynamic Performance Control.

The Dynamic Performance Control splits the torque smoothly between the rear wheels to maintain ultimate directional stability, increased dynamics and a greater lateral acceleration potential. Steering becomes easier and more precise, in everyday driving situations as much as in challenging ones.

The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system regulates the BMW xDrive at all times, using information obtained from the extremely sensitive system-integrated sensors for monitoring road conditions. It also features a torque lock-up function for either side in addition to the front and rear differential lock.  This is steered by the brake pressure build-up through the DSC to prevent wheel spin in µ-split situations (intelligent lock).
